>> AFRO'ROBICS ONGOING PROGRAM - CLASSES WILL RESUME IN SEPTEMBER Afro’RobicsTM is an amazing African dance class specially designed by Jacky Essombe for aerobic fitness, blending the richness of African dance and music with traditional history and culture to create a fun and exciting workout! In the spirit of Africa we all dance together, so everyone (including men!) is welcome. Afro’RobicsTM is suitable for all fitness levels and the moves are created so that you can either go at your own pace or push yourself for a serious workout. Come and join us! You will amaze yourself! And remember there is only one rule: Take your shoes off and smile! Several classes are offered each week, at various community centres across Vancouver: Roundhouse (downtown), Britannia (Commercial Drive), Trout Lake (Victoria Drive), Kitsilano and Dunbar. The Canadian Network for International Surgery (CNIS) hosts Swahili on-going lessons at its head office for all community members. The $30 course fee includes: - Seven instructional weeks of grammar, vocabulary, and conversational topics - All materials (no textbook required). Course dates: - May 13- June 24th, 2008
- July 8- August 19th, 2008
- September 9th – October 2nd, 2008 (No class on October 14)
- November 4th – December 23rd, 2008 (No class on November 11th)

Victoria Drive Community Hall 2026 East 43rd avenue (at Victoria Drive) Schedule: 7 pm – please arrive to mingle and socialize, catch up with friends from our community, and warm up to play. 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm: Drum Circle – led by Billy 8:30 pm to 9 pm: people interactions, stories, community announcements, etc. 9 pm to 10:30 pm: an evening with a master drummer! Play along with our guest or just dance, it’s up to you. Enjoy their unique drumming personality, learn what the drum means to them and learn or practice how to play along for the dancers. 10:30 pm to 11 pm: Chanting (traditional African songs) The Imagnara evening is an invitation to create a tribe together, dancing, drumming and chanting in unison. Let’s keep the tradition. To create a tribe we need everybody there. Without you, the tribe is not complete. I look forward to seeing you on the THIRD Friday of EVERY month, with the entire family! If you have never experienced the power of a drum circle before, then you absolutely want to join the circle at 7:30 pm. You will amaze yourself! Or simply come to dance your heart of! Everybody is a dancer. We welcome you in the dance circle, in the loving embrace of your community.
